چکیده

Temperature dependences of the dielectric properties of ultrathin polyvinylidene fluoride films prepared using the Langmuir–Blodgett method were studied by linear and nonlinear dielectric spectroscopy. It is shown that ultrathin Langmuir films of polyvinylidene fluoride exhibit a manifestation of a first-order ferroelectric phase transition, which can be assigned to the interaction between the spontaneous polarization and the surfaces bounding the film. As the film thickness increases, the effect of the surfaces decreases and the ferroelectric phase transition shifts to high temperatures to vanish altogether when the temperature region of the transition rises above the melting point. © 2005 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.

Simultaneous Stress and Field Control of Sustainable Switching of Ferroelectric Phases

In ferroelectrics, manifestation of a strong electromechanical coupling is attributed to both engineered domain morphology and phase transformations. However, realization of large sustainable and reversible strains and polarization rotation has been limited by fatigue, nonlinearity and hysteresis losses. Here, we demonstrate that large strain and polarization rotation can be generated for over ...

Two-Dimensional Ferroelectrics

The investigation of the finite-size effect in ferroelectric crystals and films has been limited by the experimental conditions. The smallest demonstrated ferroelectric crystals had a diameter of 200 A and the thinnest ferroelectric films were 200 A thick, macroscopic sizes on an atomic scale. Langmuir ± Blodgett deposition of films one monolayer at a time has produced high quality ferroelectri...

Strains and Polarization During Antiferroelectric–Ferroelectric Phase Switching in Pb0.99Nb0.02[(Zr0.57Sn0.43)1−yTiy]0.98O3 Ceramics

The electric field-induced antiferroelectric-to-ferroelectric phase transition is investigated through detailed measurements of electric polarization P, longitudinal strain x33, and transverse strain x11 developed under applied electric fields in a series of Pb0.99Nb0.02[(Zr0.57Sn0.43)1−yTiy]0.98O3 ceramics with compositions close to the antiferroelectric/ferroelectric phase boundary. It is fou...

Dynamical Dielectric Instability of the Ferroelectric AgNa(N02)2

The characteristic ferroelectric dispersion of the complex dielectric constant of AgNa(N02)2 is measured in a wide temperature range enclosing the transition point. It can be well described by a Debye monodispersive process except for a small temperature intervall around Tc . The relaxation strength obeys a Curie-Weiss law in the paraelectric phase, whereas in the ferroelectric phase there are ...
